Amigo Women Joins NRC, UNHCR & OPM Protection Desk in Nakulabye

Amigo Women Empowerment Association Ltd. was honored to be invited to participate in a Protection Desk initiative organized by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), and other humanitarian partners.
The community protection desk was held in Nakulabye, near Madrasa Center, providing an important platform for refugees, vulnerable community members, and residents to raise concerns, receive guidance, and access support services directly from relevant organizations.
The activity aimed at bringing protection services closer to the community by identifying challenges faced by individuals and providing appropriate responses through coordination with humanitarian and protection actors.
Bringing Support Closer to the Community
Many urban refugee communities experience challenges related to documentation, access to services, protection concerns, livelihoods, housing, and other social issues. The Protection Desk created an opportunity for community members to share their experiences and receive assistance from organizations working to address these challenges.
During the engagement, participants were able to:
- Report protection-related concerns
- Seek guidance on available support services
- Receive information about their rights and available assistance
- Connect with humanitarian organizations and community support networks
- Share challenges affecting their daily lives
Collaboration for Community Protection
The initiative brought together key partners, including the follwowing:
- Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC)
- United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
- Office of the Prime Minister (OPM)
- Other community and humanitarian partners
Through this collaboration, the partners demonstrated their commitment to ensuring that vulnerable populations have access to protection mechanisms, information, and support.
Amigo Women Empowerment Association Ltd’s Role
As an organization focused on empowering women, families, and vulnerable communities, Amigo Women Empowerment Association Ltd participated in the activity by mobilizing community members and engaging with participants to understand their needs.
