AMIGO Women Empowerment Association Ltd was founded by a group of passionate women who recognized the challenges faced by marginalized communities in Uganda, particularly refugee women and single mothers seeking a better life.
We envision a Uganda where every refugee woman, single mother, and youth thrives, gaining equal access to economic opportunities that foster their independence.

Our Mission
AMIGO Women Empowerment Association Ltd exists to equip refugee women, single mothers, and vulnerable youth with marketable skills, access to finance, and business development support. We foster self-reliance and economic resilience by creating safe spaces for learning, mentorship, and community collaboration, ensuring every participant can transition from survival to sustainable prosperity.

What is AMIGO Women Empowerment Association Ltd?
AMIGO Women Empowerment Association Ltd is a community-based organization registered in Uganda. We are dedicated to empowering refugee women, single mothers, and vulnerable youth through skills training, entrepreneurship development, financial inclusion, and sustainable livelihood programs. Our work is rooted in dignity, self-reliance, and community solidarity.
What is your mission?
Our mission is to equip marginalized women and youth with practical skills, resources, and confidence to build sustainable livelihoods, break cycles of poverty, and become active contributors to their communities and economies.
What is your vision?
We envision a society where every refugee woman and vulnerable youth has equal access to economic opportunities, education, and social support — enabling them to live with purpose, independence, and hope for the future.
When and how did AMIGO start?
AMIGO was founded by a group of passionate community leaders and humanitarian advocates who recognized the urgent need for targeted support for refugee women in Uganda. What began as a small grassroots initiative has grown into a trusted organization serving hundreds of women and youth across Kampala and beyond.
What values guide your work?
Our core values are Empowerment — believing in every person's potential; Inclusion — serving all regardless of background; Integrity — acting with transparency and accountability; and Community — fostering collaboration and mutual support.
Who leads AMIGO?
AMIGO is led by a dedicated team of women and men with deep experience in community development, social work, business training, and humanitarian response. Our leadership includes refugee women themselves, ensuring that our programs are shaped by the very communities we serve. We are governed by a Board of Advisors that provides strategic oversight.
Where do you operate?
We are headquartered in Namirembe-Bakuli Parish, Lubaga Division, Kampala, Uganda. Our programs serve refugee settlements and urban communities in and around Kampala, with a focus on reaching the most vulnerable women and youth who lack access to mainstream economic opportunities.
